Our last meewerkdag was lots of fun! The weather showed no mercy, but in Ecodorp Bergen, that’s no excuse; you work anyway. Always together, fortunately.
This time, María and I were involved in planting fruit trees in the area. The idea was for them to be part of a food forest. For that, we needed to get manure, so a group of us jumped in Witicka’s little golf cart. Full speed!
Then we helped each other dig deep holes in the ground in five different places. Manure was placed at the bottom of each hole, then the tree was planted, and finally, the soil was pushed back into the hole. When we were done, we did a circle dance wishing the tree good fortune, haha. It was a fun ritual. It’s a shame that I won’t get to see how the trees have fared in a few years!
It’s really starting to get windy and cold here now. The sun is setting earlier and earlier. I don’t mind it that much, because I know that in Sweden it’s even darker at this time and I’m also used to the wind from the Swedish west coast. Even though I always enjoy being outside, it’s quite nice to be indoors now. Tuesday evenings are really highlights, because some villagers come here and have creative workshops with us. We’ve learned to spin yarn, felt wool, carve wood, and most recently, we folded stars out of tissue paper that we attached to the windows in the living room. They look really pretty when the sun shines through them.
